Platform Comparison
StoreConnect vs Square POS
Which platform is right for you?
Square POS runs the counter well for single-site and smaller multi-site quick-service and retail operators. StoreConnect is built for businesses where the counter is one channel among many — and where commerce data needs to live inside Salesforce. Here’s how the two compare, and where they work together.
- ✓ Salesforce-Native POS
- ✓ Works With Square Payments
- ✓ Full Agentforce Toolkit

What does StoreConnect do?
StoreConnect is a complete commerce platform built natively on Salesforce. It runs your website, eCommerce store, Point of Sale and customer data from a single source of truth — all inside Salesforce, powering an AI-ready agentic foundation.

What does Square POS do?
Square POS is a point-of-sale and payments system with purpose-built modes for quick service, full service, bars, retail, bookings and professional services — backed by its own first-party hardware range and payment network.
We are Square partners
StoreConnect is a partner of Square Payments and integrates natively with Square Terminal. This is not an either/or decision. You can keep Square’s payment network, card-present hardware and gift cards at the counter, and run everything beyond the counter — eCommerce, B2B, memberships, ticketing, multi-store inventory and the full customer record — on StoreConnect inside Salesforce.
Key takeaways
A Salesforce-native commerce platform like StoreConnect is the right choice if you want to:
- Run POS inside Salesforce — every register sale lands on the Salesforce customer record via built-in sync, with no connector to maintain.
- Sell across every channel from one dataset — B2B, B2C, multi-store, multi-currency and in-person from a single source of truth.
- Keep Square where it is strong — use Square Payments and Square Terminal for card-present checkout while StoreConnect handles the commerce platform.
- Power AI agents with structured commerce data via Agentforce, without building custom data pipelines.
- Protect margin as volume grows with capped shared success fees rather than uncapped percentage-of-sale processing.
- Meet enterprise compliance with SOC 2 Type I and II, SOC 3, ISO 27001:2022, PCI DSS 4.0.1, GDPR and HIPAA.
Square POS could be a good fit if:
- You run a quick-service, café, bar or salon operation where counter speed, coursing, drive-thru or kitchen display are the priority.
- You want purpose-built hardware out of the box — Handheld, Terminal, Register, Stand and Kiosk are all designed as one range.
- You are starting out or single-site and want to be trading the same day with no implementation project.
- You don’t use Salesforce and have no requirement for CRM-integrated commerce data.
- Your online store is an extension of the counter rather than a channel in its own right.
Point of Sale & In-Store Operations
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| POS architecture | ✓ Built inside Salesforce — registers run on live product, pricing and stock data from your own org | Standalone POS app with its own catalog, item library and Square Dashboard |
| Offline trading | ✓ Offline mode — keep selling through an unstable connection and re-sync when you are back online | Offline payments are stored and processed on reconnection; declined if the device is not reconnected within 24 hours |
| Hardware choice | ✓ No hardware lock-in — mix integrated card terminals, cash drawers, receipt and label printers, scanners and roving tablets | Purpose-built first-party range — Handheld, Terminal, Register, Stand, Kiosk and Readers, from $59 |
| Register licensing | ✓ POS users do not require a Salesforce license; 2 registers on Boutique through to unlimited on Flagship | POS app included with every plan; Plus and Premium monthly fees apply per location |
| Inventory across locations | ✓ Live stock levels and locations across all channels, with holds, back orders, special orders, transfers and barcode printing — managed in Salesforce | Multi-location inventory tracking with low-stock alerts; transfer orders and purchase-order import sit on the higher plans |
| Staff & automation | ✓ Multiple retail logins tracked in Salesforce; POS sales can trigger Salesforce workflows and alerts shared with eCommerce | Passcode clock-in, timecards, shift scheduling and custom permission sets on paid plans |
| Reporting | ✓ Full Salesforce reports and dashboards across POS, eCommerce and B2B in one place | Square Dashboard reporting, with advanced reporting on the top plan |
Both are capable registers. The architectural difference is where the data lands. StoreConnect POS reads and writes to your Salesforce org directly, so stock, pricing and customer history are the same records your sales and service teams already work in. Square POS keeps its own catalog and customer directory, which is simpler to stand up and entirely sufficient for a single counter — but it is a second system to reconcile once you have a CRM.
Quick-Service, Restaurant & Hospitality
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurant service modes | General-purpose POS; hospitality handled through product configuration, bundles and CPQ | ✓ Purpose-built modes for quick service, full service and bars — quick order entry, table and course management, preauthorized bar tabs |
| Kitchen display | No dedicated KDS; kitchen routing via Salesforce automation or integration | ✓ Square KDS app with ticket routing, timers and performance reports — priced per device per month, not available on the free plan |
| Drive-thru | Not a dedicated drive-thru workflow | ✓ Dedicated drive-thru workflows with car identifiers and live order display |
| Self-service kiosk | Customer-facing storefronts can run on in-store devices | ✓ Square Kiosk app for self-ordering — priced per device per month on paid plans |
| Third-party delivery orders | Delivery partners connected by API or integration | ✓ Consolidates delivery-partner orders alongside POS and online orders in one Orders tab |
| Ticketing, events & memberships | ✓ Native bookable events, ticketing, memberships and recurring billing — sold online, redeemed in person | Appointments, class bookings and prepaid packages; ticketed venue and membership commerce is not a core focus |
| Account ordering | ✓ Native pay-by-account with account credit and a pricebook per account or store | Open checks and house accounts with running balances, invoiced when due |
| Franchise & multi-brand | ✓ Multiple storefronts and brands from a single Salesforce org, with shared or separate catalogs | Multi-location management within one Square account; advanced modifier flows available for franchise operators |
For quick-service food and beverage, Square POS is the stronger counter, and we say so plainly. Drive-thru workflows, coursing, kitchen display and self-service kiosk are all first-class Square features built by a team focused on that problem. StoreConnect’s strength starts where the transaction stops being a transaction — ticketed venues, memberships, subscriptions, B2B account ordering and multi-brand retail, all sitting on the same customer record as the in-person sale.
Payments, Gift Cards & Partnership
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| Square Payments support | ✓ Square supported as a payment provider, with native integration to Square Terminal | ✓ Square Payments is the native processor across every channel |
| Payment provider choice | ✓ Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, Braintree, Afterpay, Square and more — configurable per store zone | Primarily Square’s own processing; third-party processing options are limited |
| Gift cards & vouchers | ✓ Voucher and gift codes redeemable online and in person against one Salesforce record | ✓ Physical and eGift cards sold from POS or online store; a load fee applies on lower plans and is waived on the top plan |
| Buy now, pay later | ✓ Native Afterpay and configurable BNPL options | ✓ Afterpay and Cash App Pay, at a higher per-transaction rate |
| In-store payment methods | ✓ Cash, integrated terminals, manual card, gift card, pay later, pay by account, click & collect, holds, transfers, special orders and rental plans with recurring billing | Cards, contactless and digital wallets, Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android, cash, cheque, gift cards, ACH by invoice |
| Payment records in CRM | ✓ Every payment stored as a Salesforce object — a full audit trail without leaving the CRM | Payments held in Square; Salesforce payment records require middleware |
| Cross-border commerce | ✓ Native multi-currency across storefronts, with payment routing per region | Available in a defined set of countries, with each account trading in its local market |
| Banking & cash flow | Not applicable — StoreConnect is a commerce platform, not a financial services provider | ✓ Square Checking, Savings, Loans and instant access to sales proceeds |
This is the row set that matters most for existing Square merchants. Square’s payment network, card-present hardware, gift cards and banking products are real advantages, and StoreConnect is a Square partner precisely so you don’t have to give them up. Keep Square at the terminal; run the commerce platform, the customer record and every other channel on StoreConnect inside Salesforce.
Salesforce Compatibility & Data Architecture
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| CRM integration | ✓ Native — all data lives directly in Salesforce objects | Requires third-party middleware to sync with Salesforce |
| Single source of truth | ✓ One unified dataset for orders, customers, inventory and payments | Square holds its own dataset, separate from any CRM |
| POS to CRM record creation | ✓ Built-in sync — register sales update the Salesforce Contact and order history | Customer Directory creates profiles automatically inside Square; CRM records require a connector |
| Sales Cloud compatibility | ✓ Native — runs inside your existing Sales Cloud org | Not natively compatible; API connectors required |
| Salesforce CPQ | ✓ Compatible out of the box for configured products and bundles | No CPQ integration path |
| Experience Cloud licenses | ✓ Customer accounts and portals without additional Experience Cloud licenses | Not applicable |
| Unified customer profile | ✓ One Salesforce Contact combining in-store, online, B2B and service history | Customer Directory covers Square channels; anything outside Square needs integration |
If Salesforce is already your system of record, this is the deciding category. StoreConnect writes commerce data straight into the objects your teams already use, so there is no connector to build, monitor or pay for. Connecting Square POS to Salesforce is achievable, but it means middleware, mapping decisions and ongoing maintenance — work that grows with every location and every channel you add.
Use Cases & Commerce Models
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| B2B eCommerce | ✓ Native — account-based pricing, pricebooks per account or store, bulk and repeat ordering | No dedicated B2B commerce capability |
| Subscriptions & memberships | ✓ Native subscriptions, memberships and recurring billing, including rental plans | Item and service subscriptions available on the online store |
| Multi-store / multi-brand | ✓ Multiple storefronts and brands from a single Salesforce org | Multiple sites managed within one Square account; monthly plan fees apply per location |
| Storefront customization | ✓ Fully customizable via Liquid templating, CMS, custom JavaScript and full theme control | Template-based site builder, with expanded customization and custom code embeds on higher plans |
| Product bundles & configuration | ✓ Native bundles with Salesforce CPQ integration for configured products | Product bundles available on paid plans; no CPQ-style configuration |
| Donations & fundraising | ✓ Native pay-what-you-want and preset giving amounts, in person and online | No dedicated donation product; nonprofits transact through standard checkout and invoicing |
| Education & public sector | ✓ Enrolments, programs, ticketed sessions and account-based billing on Salesforce, with nonprofit editions supported | General-purpose commerce, without sector-specific commerce models |
| Attractions & ticketed venues | ✓ Native ticketing and timed entry, redeemable at the register | Bookings and class packages cover appointment-led venues |
Square POS covers the retail and hospitality transaction thoroughly. StoreConnect covers commerce models that don’t look like a retail transaction at all — wholesale accounts on negotiated pricebooks, memberships that renew, ticketed entry, program enrolments and donations. Because these all resolve to Salesforce records, an organization can run several of them side by side without standing up a separate platform for each.
AI & Agentforce Capabilities
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| Agentforce readiness | ✓ Native agentic foundation — commerce data sits in Salesforce objects Agentforce can already reason over | No Agentforce integration path |
| Built-in AI assistant | ✓ Salesforce AI across sales, service and commerce, plus the StoreConnect Agentforce Toolkit | ✓ Square AI, currently in beta, for business recommendations drawn from Square data |
| AI ordering | Agent-led ordering and support through Agentforce on your own storefronts | ✓ AI voice ordering for phone orders, currently in beta |
| Data foundation for agents | ✓ Clean, structured, single-source data with no pipeline build required | Agents would need a custom pipeline out of Square to reach a CRM |
| AI at the point of interaction | ✓ Agents can surface complete online, in-store and B2B history at the register or in service | Insights are scoped to activity captured inside Square |
| Live chat & digital engagement | ✓ Digital Engagement Agent integration included on all plans | Customer messaging with suggested replies, plus a business phone number |
Square is shipping real AI — Square AI and voice ordering are both in beta and both useful. The difference is scope. Square’s AI reasons over what happened inside Square. Because StoreConnect stores commerce data as Salesforce records, Agentforce can reason over the whole customer — orders, cases, opportunities and in-store purchases together. See the StoreConnect Agentforce Toolkit for what that enables.
Licensing, Pricing & Total Cost of Ownership
| Pricing Factor | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | ✓ Monthly subscription plus a shared success fee that is capped per transaction | Free, Plus and Premium plans plus per-transaction processing fees; a custom Pro tier is offered above a set annual processing volume |
| Subscription cost | ✓ From $1,095 USD per month on Boutique, billed annually, for the whole platform | $0 on the free plan, then $49 and $149 per month per location on the paid plans |
| In-person rate | ✓ 0.8% POS on Boutique down to 0.1% POS on Flagship, capped at $20 to $5 per transaction | 2.6% + 15¢ on the free plan, 2.5% + 15¢ and 2.4% + 15¢ on the paid plans — uncapped |
| Online rate | ✓ 1% on Boutique down to 0.2% on Flagship, capped at $20 to $5 per transaction | 3.3% + 30¢ on the free plan, 2.9% + 30¢ on the paid plans — uncapped |
| Cost of adding locations | ✓ Registers and storefronts scale by plan, not by a per-location subscription; unlimited on Flagship | The paid plan fee is charged for each location you run |
| Add-on stacking | ✓ B2B, subscriptions, bookings, donations, multi-currency and POS all included natively | Kitchen display and kiosk apps are charged per device per month; payroll, marketing texts and some inventory integrations carry their own fees |
| Support | ✓ Email and customer portal support on all plans, with a 3, 2 or 1 day critical support SLA by plan, plus 24x7 monitoring | Chat and email on all plans; phone support on weekday business hours, moving to 24/7 on the top plan |
| CRM included | Requires an existing Salesforce org — and delivers the full value of it | No CRM included; a separate CRM subscription and integration is needed |
Square’s entry pricing is hard to beat when you are starting out, and a free plan with no monthly fee is a genuine advantage for a first location. The economics change with scale in two places: paid plan fees are charged per location, and processing fees are a percentage of every sale with no ceiling. StoreConnect’s shared success fee is capped per transaction, so a higher average order value does not mean a proportionally higher fee. Compare the two against your own volume on the StoreConnect pricing page.
Data Security & Compliance
| Feature | StoreConnect | Square POS |
|---|---|---|
| PCI DSS | ✓ PCI DSS 4.0.1 compliant — documentation available via the Trust Center | PCI DSS Level 1 compliant for its own payment processing |
| SOC reports | ✓ SOC 2 Type I, SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 | SOC reporting available on request from Square’s compliance team |
| ISO 27001 | ✓ ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified | ISO 27001 certified |
| HIPAA | ✓ HIPAA compliant on Emporium and Flagship with the add-on | Supports seller HIPAA obligations via a business associate agreement; configuration remains the seller’s responsibility |
| GDPR & privacy | ✓ Inherits Salesforce’s globally recognised privacy and data protection standards | Privacy tooling provided; compliance configuration remains the seller’s responsibility |
| Data residency & ownership | ✓ All commerce data resides in your own Salesforce org — you own and control it | Held within Square’s own infrastructure, with limited merchant control over residency |
| Data isolation | ✓ Flagship includes dedicated web and database servers; local region servers available on Emporium and Flagship | Shared platform infrastructure across sellers |
| Disaster recovery | ✓ A full store can be rebuilt from your own Salesforce org, with no third-party dependency | Platform-managed recovery, dependent on Square’s infrastructure |
Both platforms hold meaningful certifications, and Square’s payment security is well established — it is core to what they do. The distinction for enterprise and regulated buyers is ownership. StoreConnect keeps commerce data inside your Salesforce org, which means you control residency, isolation and recovery, and you can rebuild from your own backup without depending on a vendor. Full documentation is at the StoreConnect Trust Center.

- You want to keep Square Payments at the counter while moving the platform to Salesforce
