How one manufacturer automated their entire ERP from the cart.
I love talking to our customers after they go live, especially when they are doing something that sounds almost impossibly complex.
I recently spoke with a manufacturer using StoreConnect. They don’t sell “off-the-shelf” items. Their customers decide exactly how long a panel is, how many times it needs to be cut, where it needs to be imprinted, and even which specific warehouse in which country it should be shipped from.
For most eCommerce platforms, that kind of customization is a nightmare. But for this customer, the checkout was just the beginning.
What was truly powerful wasn’t just the customization on the front end. It was what happened when that data hit Salesforce.
Because we use a configurable data model, that order immediately integrated with their ERP. It automatically created manufacturing jobs with a complex bill of materials. It triggered a sequence of events to produce, package and deliver that specific item without anyone having to manually “bridge” the data between systems.
In a traditional setup, a customer might get an email saying ‘Order received and then… nothing, until it ships.
But because this system was properly integrated, the manufacturer could tell the customer exactly where their build was. “One of ten steps is done. Two of ten steps are done.” The customer could see their entire complex build in real-time on the website. They didn’t see the “cool tricks” happening in the middle; they just saw a seamless, professional experience for a very expensive order.
That is the power of a platform that works for your business. It takes the janky hacks out of the equation and lets you focus on making things.
