Sensormatic Solutions research found 44% of consumers are likely to abandon a shopping trip if they face a long checkout line[^1]. A clumsy screen layout or a missing shortcut adds seconds to every transaction, and those seconds add up to a queue. It starts with layout configuration for which fields a screen shows and in what order, then layout filters, POS views, supported actions for buttons, menus and tiles, scripts and styles, and print templates for receipts, dockets, documents and labels[^2]. Broad scripting is avoided when configuration or a view is enough. ## Customizations that ignore offline behavior fail at the worst moment A POS customization that works perfectly on a good connection can fail when the network drops, which is exactly when staff can least afford it.
